Takayama has worked hard to maintain its history and culture through the preservation of its old structures. Explore the tranquil environment of this historic town and learn about the history of Japan outside of Japan's regularly frequented hubs. Located near Takayama is the Gassho-zukuri (thatched roof) village of Shirakawa-go, a popular spot, which has earned its place as a World Heritage site.
